Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker will honor young scientists during the governor's second annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Week Celebration at the statehouse on Monday.
Zwicker, head of science education at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, will present a resolution honoring the Governor's STEM Scholars Class of 2016, a selective group of 60 students interested in the STEM fields, at 11:30 a.m. in the State House Annex, Room 9, Third Floor, 125 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.
"Our state's STEM scholars prove that we have the talent right here at home to fill jobs that will advance not only our state and our nation, but also the world," said Zwicker (D- Hunterdon/Mercer/Middlesex/Somerset). "New Jersey's history is full of stories of innovation in STEM, and it is fitting for us to foster that spirit by nurturing and honoring the next generation of scientists."
In addition to receiving this honor, the students will present their research on Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Room 9.
The Governor's STEM Scholars is a unique public-private partnership between the Research & Development Council of New Jersey, the Governor's Office, the Department of Education and the Secretary of Higher Education that connects high school and college students with all aspects of New Jersey's STEM economy.
I am always incredibly excited whenever I can educate young people about science, whether it's in my professional role as Head of Science Education at the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab, or in my role as a Member of the General Assembly. Hands on science and engineering programs are vital to inspiring life-long learners, as well as sparking careers in STEM fields. It was a joy to watch these kids experiment, grow, and have fun!
